Injuries and inconsistent form at times have created some difficulties for Nigerian striker Taiwo Awoniyi but it is clear to see how much the former Liverpool player is relishing his opportunity in the English Premier League with Nottingham Forest. For the second consecutive match the powerful 25-year-old marksman scored twice for Forest in a 2-2 draw at Chelsea to follow up another two-goal performance in a victory over Southampton last week.
Awoniyi moved to Liverpool in 2015 following success with the under-17 national team of Nigeria but was sent out on loan for seven seasons because he could not obtain a work permit to play in England. After such a long wait the Ilorin native is playing a crucial role in Forest’s push to escape relegation with eight Premier League goals in the club’s return to the top tier of England this season. Watch Awoniyi’s goals below and also watch two-goal performances from Habib Diallo and Sébastien Haller along with all other goal contributions by African players over the weekend in Europe’s top leagues.
