The significant transfers for Ivorians continued with the move of 20-year-old attacker Bénie Traoré to English Premier League club Sheffield United. The Blades decided to part way with €4.6 million for the youth graduate of ASEC Mimosas who played a key role at previous club BK Häcken, the reigning champions of Sweden’s top division Allsvenskan. Traoré did not play during the 2022 campaign because of a broken leg but scored 12 goals in 14 matches for Häcken in the ongoing 2023 season.

Central defender James Gomez continued to rise in stature for The Gambia national team and his club career in Europe took another step forward as well. The 21-year-old former Real de Banjul player completed a transfer to Sparta Prague in the Czech Republic, joining Nigerian striker Victor Olatunji as a new arrival at the club this week. Gomez spent four years in Denmark with AC Horsens, helping the club get promoted to the Danish Superliga before leaving after Horsens were relegated back to the second tier.

Young South African defender Olwethu Makhanya also completed a significant move by joining Major League Soccer club Philadelphia Union. The 19-year-old featured in 23 matches for Stellenbosch FC during his debut professional season for the club and was signed as a U-22 initiative signing by the Union that encourages MLS clubs to sign young international players.
